  • A few seconds later, the Recovery Mode of Chrome OS will open.
  • Possibly, multiple warning dialog boxes will pop on the screen, defining what consequences you will receive on continuing the process- if you want, you can read the text what warning you will receive.
  • On accepting or ignoring all the warnings, press the Ctrl and D keys both at the same enter, then press Enter key.
  • Again, you will receive a warning dialog. If you want, read the text or ignore it and proceed further.

  • From the images to videos to the files you ever saved on the Chromebook are no more.

Yet, if your Chromebook has Forced re-enrollment turned ON, you won’t succeed in un-enrolling the laptop. This option is by default on Chrome OS. No matter which brand you select, you will receive this option as the manufacturers leave it purposely.

Turn OFF the Forced Re-Enrollment

  • Open your Chromebook and sign in to the Google Admin Console.
  • Choose an administrative account to sign in to the Google Admin Console.
  • From the home page of the Google Home Console, navigate to the Devices option, then to Chrome.
  • Once the Chrome option opens, click on the Settings option then to the Device.
  • Here you have two options. If you want to apply the settings to all devices select the Top Organizational box. Or, if you want to apply the settings to one device only (Chromebook in your case), navigate to the Organizational Unit. Now, navigate to the Enrollment and Access option.
  • Direct to the Forced re-enrollment settings from the pop-on menu.
  • Here, you have three options! The device is not forced to re-enroll after wiping option to prevent auto re-enrolling.
  • Click on save changes and refresh the Windows.

Wait for your Chromebook to respond!

The un-enrolling process does not end by wiping all the data. You need to wait for your Chromebook to respond to check whether the process is successful or not.

It will take around 20-30 minutes for your Chromebook to respond. Are you thinking about how to pass that time? Check out the best Chromebook with a backlit keyboard and touchscreen with your favorite drink on the side.

Enable the System Verifications

After the completion of reset loading, your Chromebook will reboot automatically. Again, you will receive a warning on the screen. Ignore it completely, and press Enter to continue the process.

Ignoring the warning text, the System Verifications will enable automatically, switching the Chromebook to the defaults mode.

At this point, you are done un-enrolling the Chromebook successfully. If you want to register it to a new domain, you are free to go.

Why do you need to unenroll your managed Chromebook?

Suppose you buy a Chromebook from a developer enterprise and, it is not legally un-enrolled. That is when the issue arises. Your newly bought laptop will sure have connections with the enterprise, sharing your data with them.

Or, a legally enrolled Chromebook is indeed a stolen piece and delivered to you secretly. If things worsen, the owner can claim the laptop as his own and charge you for legal custody.

Another reason for unenrolling Chromebooks is to save them from getting locked. As the laptop is still under the link with the enterprise, they can lock it whenever they want. Unenroll it properly to save it from getting locked.
